DCG specializes in partnering with philanthropic institutions during times of change and opportunity. Â Our goal is to build organizational capacity to ensure that grantmaking institutions are effective, achieve maximum value, and work in partnership with peers and nonprofit organizations.
We work with funders to address issues of governance, performance, and effective grantmaking to ensure long-term community impact. We partner with staff and Board leadership to design and implement new philanthropic institutions and grantmaking programs, lead organizational or program planning, enhance the skill-sets of Board and staff, and work with funders to create technical assistance and capacity building programs to strengthen their grantees and achieve expanded impact in the community.
Our areas of focus include:
- Planning: preparing a new or existing foundation to address current and future needs so as to maximize their resources and impact
- Family Philanthropy: working with family foundations to resolve donor intent and family dynamics, build consensus, strengthen grantmaking initiatives, and engage the next generation
- Capacity Building for Grantees: deepening understanding of grantees’ needs and creating programs to strengthen their internal capacity
- Board and Staff Development: improving the effectiveness of board and staff leadership and building boards based on best practices
- Retreats: planning and facilitating highly participatory retreats with staff and/or board members
